Looking for great events in Omaha this January? Now that the holidays are over, the kids are back in school and it finally feels like winter, it’s time to get out and have some fun and there are lots of fun things to do this month. From a Star Wars themed extravaganza at the Omaha Children’s Museum to an indoor air show at the Strategic Air and Space Museum, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a list of some fun, educational and family friendly events taking place this January in Omaha:

Star Wars Night at Omaha Children’s Museum
When: January 9th, 2016 |5:30pm – 8pm

May the Force be with you! Join us for Star Wars Night at the OCM galaxy and enjoy Star Wars character appearances, lightsaber crafts, Star Wars movie in the theater and a Star Wars Imperial March of all the characters at 6 and 7pm! Free with regular museum admission or membership.

Indoor Air Show
When: January 16th, 2016
Where: Strategic Air & Space Museum
28210 West Park Highway, Ashland, NE

The Indoor Air Show brings the fun and excitement of an air show inside with radio-controlled (R/C) models. Starting at 10:00 AM, model pilots will demonstrate all of the loops, flips, and barrel rolls in the museum’s climate-controlled Durham Restoration Hangar. The public is invited to come out to the museum and experience flight! Several R/C clubs will fly throughout the day. Viewing will be set up in Hangar B and on the Gilbert M. & Martha H. Hitchcock Observation Gallery. The event is from 10 a.m. – 2 a.m.; admission applies. The Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Midlands International Auto Show
When: January 28 – 31, 2016
Where: CenturyLink Center

Midlands International Auto Show, featuring about 400 new cars, SUVs and trucks along with motorcycles and classic cars.

This May Hurt a Bit: Medicine in Old Omaha
When: Going on Now
Where: Durham Museum

This May Hurt A Bit will take visitors back to just after Omaha’s founding, and the colorful world of medicine that early settlers encountered. From blood-letting, to magic cure-alls, to doctors treating patients while shackled in a prison cell, this exhibit examines what constituted medical practice on the frontier. Using documents from the Byron Reed collection, visitors will see firsthand what life was like as both doctor and patient in the 1800s.

Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium
When: Now
Where: 3701 S. 10th Street, Omaha, NE

It’s all happening at the zoo… Head on out to the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium to see the brand new baby hippo on display now! Other exhibits include an orangutan forest, aviary, the aquarium and the IMAX theater, just to name a few. Make a day of it at the zoo with picnic areas available!
