Designing and building a new home requires a hefty investment of time and money. So, it goes without saying you want your completed home to look great as well as be practical. For some, the task of designing a home can be daunting, especially when trying to design a luxurious, spa-like bathroom without going over budget. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be so hard! We’ve put together a list of seven or our best tips for designing the perfect bathroom. Check them out below!

Pick the Perfect Vanity

The great thing about vanities is they can be adjusted to fit the height of the person using them. For shorter people, we recommend installing a vanity ranging from 30-32 inches tall. Taller people will find vanities at a height of 34-42 inches to be better suited to them. In addition to vanity height, consider the type of storage you’ll need. Include space to store things like blow dryers, curling irons, and electric razors. For added convenience, install outlets at the back of vanities to keep unsightly cords tucked away.

Incorporate Vertical Storage

While you may have found the perfect vanity, there’s only so much storage available below its sink. Take advantage of the space above the vanity by adding verticle storage. This can include shelves or even upper cabinets, depending on the final look you’re attempting to create. Doing so not only creates more storage space but can also break up long vanities and add visual interest to a traditional bathroom design.

Add Self-Standing Additions

In addition to adding verticle storage, you can also incorporate furniture for extra storage. Think about adding a self-standing cabinet to hold a hamper or a ladder shelf to hold towels. Just make sure whatever you choose fits the aesthetic of your bathroom design!

Be Intentional About Storage

Having a solid plan to create storage is essential to ensuring your bathroom design is as functional as possible. If your bathroom doesn’t have enough space for a towel bar to hold towels or bathrobes, add hooks instead. Likewise, dedicated spaces like a linen cabinet can be used to store larger items like bedding or toilet paper while a medicine cabinet can hold smaller items.

Maximize Small Spaces

While we may all dream of spacious bathrooms, that’s not always the case. The good news? Even a small bathroom can be amazing! The key is to make the most of the space you do have by utilizing structures like doors and walls to add valuable storage space. In addition, a large mirror can help a small bathroom appear much bigger than it really is.

Avoid Chaos

Let’s face it, designing your ideal bathroom may be easier said than done. Like any other big project, there are always challenges. If you find yourself stuck in the design phase, consider employing the expertise of an interior designer. With their knowledge and experience, you’re sure to end up with a stunning, yet functional bathroom design!

Make Room for Decor

A great way to top off the design phase is to add finishing touches with decor. By building display space into your bathroom’s design, you’ll always have a spot to showcase your favorite pieces. Some of our favorite types of built-in display areas include recessed wall niches and open shelving. The end result is a warm and welcoming environment that promotes relaxation.
