The Pantone Color Institute recently announced 16-1546 Living Coral as the 2019 Color of the Year. The Color of the Year is selected based on many industries including fashion, social media, art, and pop culture. Inspired by the ocean’s coral reef’s, this year’s color is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” Living Coral also gives a nod to our ever-changing environment. As a warm and optimistic color that appeals to many, it’s no surprise we’ve begun to see it more and more in this year’s home design trends.
Interested in adding a pop of coral into your home’s design? Here are three easy ways to do just that!
Take It Slow with Home Decor
Not ready to go all in with this vibrant hue just yet? No problem! Start small using decor pieces like accent pillows and throw blankets. They provide a great place to start when experimenting with a vibrant shade like Living Coral. Mixing and matching different tones, textures, and shapes will help you get the most out of this trendy color by adding a little extra dimension to the design of the room.
Liven Up Furniture
Another easy way to make a statement with this shade is by incorporating it into the room’s furniture. A pretty coral accent chair is an excellent way to liven up a room with an otherwise neutral color palette. If swapping out your existing furniture isn’t in the cards, a simple solution is to slide a slipcover over current furniture. Not only is it budget friendly, but it’s a great way to test out this color in your home before making a larger investment.
Make a Splash with an Accent Wall
An eye-catching addition to any room, Living Coral makes an amazing accent wall color! Painting just one wall with this bright shade is an easy way to take advantage of this trend without overwhelming other design details in the room. Pair it with lighter, complementary colors like a soft blue or a neutral gray to really make it pop. The end result creates a pretty, yet subtle design you’re sure to love.
