In honor of its rich Mexican heritage, Nebraska’s South Omaha Latino community has been hosting Cinco de Mayo events in Omaha for decades, dating back to the early 1930s. Annual festivities include a grand parade, delicious food and lively music—it’s a tradition that gleams of prideful community spirit.
The mission of Cinco de Mayo Omaha is to promote Mexican culture and bring awareness to South Omaha businesses and organizations while raising funds for local nonprofit groups.

Grand celebrations within celebrations will be the highlight for everyone in attendance at the Renaissance Festival of Nebraska. For the first weekend, May 5-6, with its “Mythical Jubilee” theme, historical and fantastical creatures will lead us in our merry-making. These will be two excellent days to spy a unicorn, witness the daily butterfly release or try to catch a fairy! We hope to see many people in their elven, mythological, merfolk, or fae finery, or simply joining in with these magical beings as they flood the festival grounds. The second weekend, May 12-13, “A Royal Celebration,” will be a grand observance of our decade of faires, heralded by the upper crust. The festival nobles will celebrate the grandeur of the occasion during the regal jousts, the majestic parade, and while interacting with all who attend the festival. Come as high-society, common peasant, or simply come as you are to the second weekend, and treat yourself like royalty!
